Confetti
For this project, we were asked to design a game show set based off of the original Give Us A Clue game show. We had to research the original show’s set, and create a new and interesting design. For this project, we were working with a live client and the set was expected to be built at the end. This meant that we had to work within a tight £1000 budget, and consider how our set would fit into a small 7x8 meter space.
The show was to be focused around charades, and so we needed to incorporate a large miming/play area into our design. I wanted to play with the idea that simple games like these could be played anywhere. With some of my early sketches, I explored having the contestants miming actions through windows or various openings, and focused more on abstract shapes rather than a representational set. In the end, I went with a more 50’s Americana style front yard, as I really enjoyed the idea of the contestants “playing in the yard together” while the host watched from the front porch.
I wanted the set to retain a very stylized look, and due to our limited budget, I decided to use simple, angular shapes for the set with illustrative painted details. In terms of interactability, I wanted the house number to be the scoreboard, and for the contestants to sit around the set in various types of chairs you might find around a house (lawn chairs, pool chairs, garage stools, etc).
