Location Project
The Location project was a chance for us to explore location scouting, working from a script, and working with period accurate elements to transform a modern location into something fit for a historical production. This project was cut shorter than it normally runs, so we only had three weeks to identify a suitable location and its innacurate elements, create overlays and visuals representing the changes, and a storyboard based off of the script we were given. I was assigned a short script for an adaptation of Hard Times, the 1854 novel by Charles Dickens. It is a gritty novel exploring industrialization in 1840s Victorian Northern England.
This project was very hard for me for a couple of reasons. First off, I had a very hard time doing adequate historical research, and my final design suffered because of it. Secondly, I unfortunately suffered a loss in the family at the beginning of this project, which also severely hindered my ability to reach the quality of my previous projects. Despite these issues, I am proud of the work I did produce. For this project, I worked a lot more with Sketchup than I had in the past, completely recreating the facade and additions to my chosen building. I am proud of the overlay I did, and I think that I successfully identified all modern elements which would have to be removed or changed for the production.
